Audacity is a free, open-source audio editor. It doesn't do any MIDI sequencing but it is very useful for recording sound and doing simple editing. It has a multi-track feature which allows you to create sound mixes with effects. It is certainly not Pro Tools but for what you pay for it, it is very capable.
